Fastball is known for their smash hits that include The Way, Out of My Head, Youre An Ocean, and Fire Escape, and their dynamic live shows, where no two are the same. With more than 20 years of musical explorations and milestones under its belt, Fastball remains one of the most consistent and continuously celebrated rock bands on the road today. In 2017, the Grammy-nominated band released their 6th studio album, Step Into Light, their first album in eight years. At first the success felt weird because it happened so fast, shares drummer Joey Shuffield. Their 1998 record All the Pain Money Can Buy skyrocketed to platinum-plus sales in a mere six months, sending the guys on a whirlwind tour of the world. Along the way, Fastball scored a pair of coveted Grammy nominations, an MTV Music Award nomination and regular rotation on the late-night talk show circuit (Conan, Letterman and Leno to name a few). Over the years, they performed with artists such as Foo Fighters, Mike Peters from The Alarm, Cy Curnin from The Fixx, Boy George, the reunited Culture Club, Billy Preston, Stray Cats singer Brian Setzer, former Wallflowers guitarist Michael Ward, Everclear, and had an album produced by Spoon collaborator Mike McCarthy and Fountains of Waynes Adam Schlesinger.I think weve grown into a really good rock n roll band thats way better than weve ever been, explains Zuniga. We have an audience thats stuck with us the whole time and playing shows never feels like work because its a ton of fun. We know people want to hear the hits and we definitely have those in there, but we try to play something off every record. Adds Shuffield: Our overall vibe depends on the room. If were playing a big festival, we like to rock out and make it as exciting as possible, but were also known to vibe a bit more if were in a smaller, more intimate setting. After being musicians for more than 20 years, they have hit their peak and learned how to communicate better as bandmates. Theres greater depth to their music as a result.
Fastball: Fastball was formed in 1994 by native Texans Joey Shuffield and Miles Zuniga along with So-Cal transplant Tony Scalzo. Originally called Magneto USA, they were signed in 1995 to Hollywood Records and soon changed their name to Fastball. They released their first full length album,"Make Your Mama Proud" in 1996 and toured extensively throughout the US with little notice. After a year and a half they recorded a second album entitled, "All The Pain Money Can Buy". Before it's release in Spring 1998, US radio had latched on to a catchy little ditty called "The Way" and it was clear that Fastball had a hit on their hands. Songs like "Sooner or Later", "Fire Escape" and "Out Of My Head" followed and the band toured around the world. At home, copies of All The Pain Money Can Buy reached the platinum, 1 million sales mark by the end of the year. Another album, "The Harsh Light Of Day" was released in 2000 and the band continued to tour at home and abroad. A fourth CD on Rykodisc, "Keep Your Wig On" was released in 2004. Since then, Fastball has continued to play live throughout the world. The guys have also done quite a bit of side work, writing and recording with other artists like Bruce Robison, Al Anderson, Bowling For Soup and many more. New material from Fastball is in the writing and recording stage and a fifth studio release is expected for 2007.
